SOUND DESIGN SYSTEM ๐ŸŽ›๏ธ

VOLUME UP!

WHY UPDATE ?

Since itโ€™s founding in 2006, Twitterโ€™s limited sound system remained. The signature Tweet sound (the whistle) wasnโ€™t ownable by Twitter, itโ€™s an iOS default. This system also did not account for neurodivergent people with sensory sensitivities.

Twitterโ€™s New Sound Design System is contemporary, playful, with a twist of nostalgic self-awareness that takes into account the needs of neurodivergent customers and is ownable for Twitter.

INDIVIDUALS RESEARCH

โ€œI would get a ding and it would linger and it was horribleโ€

โ€œI mostly keep my phone on silentโ€ฆ just because I find the noise jarring and uncomfortableโ€

โ€œWhat really annoys me as an end user is when a sound doesnโ€™t have a purpose other than just being thereโ€

โ€œFacebook Messengerโ€™s ping is the worst one. Itโ€™s a ping and a pop combined. Itโ€™s very suddenโ€

โ€œiPhone has the swooshes when you send a messageโ€ฆ I wish I could send more emails because itโ€™s kind of relaxingโ€

โ€œ[A sound is annoying] If itโ€™s a distinct sound that is very repetitiveโ€
